Most of the Algoma region is conveniently located on the edge of the pristine Lake Superior, where we can enjoy our summers on the water. However, boaters caught drinking and boating in Ontario will face the same penalties as those for drinking and driving.

These penalties apply to anyone who is caught drinking and operating motorized and non-motorized vessels, including power boats, canoes, kayaks, jet-skis, sailboats, dinghies, inflatable boats and rafts.

Penalties include but are not limited to:

  • Installation of Ignition Interlock on boater’s vehicle (their vehicle, not their boat)
  • Immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension
  • Immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension
  • Once convicted, impaired boaters have a criminal record
